ランブルスコを日常の食卓に!

In the 2022 edition of the wine guide “Vinibuoni d’Italia” published by the Italian Travel Association (Touring Club Italiano), two Lambruscos were awarded the highest award, “Corona” (meaning “crown”).

Lambrusco won the highest award

Lambrusco is a slightly sparkling wine made in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy (some of it is also made in Lombardy), and has a low alcohol content, a light mouthfeel, and a fruity flavor. This wine is popular due to its affordable price. Since such a popular wine won the highest award, it has become a bit of a hot topic.

``Vinibuoni d'Italia'' examines wines made from indigenous Italian varieties that have been cultivated for over 300 years. 904 wines were shortlisted by 21 judges. Chiarri's Lambrusco del Fondatore 2020 and Vecchia Modena Premium 2020 were selected for the top prize.

Chiaruri is a family-run winery that has been in business since 1860, and the current owner is the fifth generation. He owns 100 hectares of vineyards and produces around 950,000 bottles a year.

Lambrusco del Fondatore is Lambrusco made using the Champagne method of secondary fermentation in the bottle. This is a supple and elegant wine with a floral aroma and fruity aroma.

Meanwhile, the Vecchia Modena Premium was awarded a Mention Honorable at the 1900 Paris Universal Exposition. The etiquette is designed to be used when receiving awards, giving it a historical feel. The aromas of strawberries and mixed berries are fresh, with a lively minerality, while at the same time the taste is smooth and pleasant. Both are Lambrusco di Sorbara DOC.

Lambrusco del Fondatore has shown its ability by being included in Wine Spectator's top 100 in 2018 and winning the highest Trebicchieri award at Gambero Rosso many times. In addition, Vecchia Modena Premium is the first wine in the history of Lambrusco to win the top prize Trebicchieri in Gambero Rosso in 2010, the Cinque Grappoli top prize in Due Miravini in 2013, and the top prize in Vivenda in 2019. It has won the Cinque Grappoli.

This time, these Lambruscos got a double Corona.

What is Lambrusco?

Lambrusco is generally known as an easy-drinking wine, with moderate sweetness, astringency, and a well-balanced acidity. The alcohol content is low at 8-11%, making it a flavor that even wine beginners can enjoy.

Lambrusco wine is made from Lambrusco grapes, and most of them are red wines, but there are also white and rosé varieties, and they come in sweet and dry varieties.

There are many Lambrusco varieties, the most prominent of which are Lambrusco di Sorvara, Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro, and Lambrusco di Salamino di Santa Croce.

Lambrusco di Sorbara is an elegant wine with fresh, violet notes.

Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro is darker in color, has more tannins, and has a heavier flavor.

Lambrusco di Salamino di Santa Croce can be described as an intermediate taste between Sorbara and Grasparossa di Castelvetro.

lambrusco pairing

Emilia-Romagna is also famous for its gastronomy, producing some of Italy's most prized ingredients, such as Parmigiano-Reggiano, Parma ham, mortadella (Bolognese sausage), and balsamic vinegar from Modena. It is also the birthplace of typical Italian dishes such as lasagna and Bolognese (meat sauce).

True to the Italian pairing rule of ``pairing local cuisine with local wine,'' Lambrusco goes perfectly with lasagna and Bolognese. The refreshing Lambrusco is perfect for hearty and satisfying lasagna and bolognese.

Also, you can't miss the aperitivo, which involves drinking Lambrusco while snacking on Parmigiano or mortadella.

Lambrusco is a food-friendly wine, so of course it can be paired with anything other than the local cuisine of Emilia-Romagna. It goes well with meat dishes such as yakiniku and hamburgers, as well as Chinese and ethnic dishes. It's a wine that is easy to incorporate into your meals, so find your favorite Lambrusco and enjoy it daily.
