Pierrot is a premium winery founded in Margaret River, Western Australia in 1979 by former doctor Michael Peterkin. Petterkin graduated from the University of Western Australia's Faculty of Medicine in 1973 and worked in a hospital for three years before leaving the long, grueling hours to pursue wine, a passion he had enjoyed since his medical student days. . In 1976, Petterkin attended Roseworthy College in Adelaide, where he studied cultivation and brewing for two years. After his graduation, he returned to Western Australia and established his own winery, while continuing to make wine at Curren Wines, founded by fellow doctor Kevin Curran and his wife Diana, until 1980. I did. Pierro's name comes from a combination of "son of the rock", which comes from the many rocks on the winery grounds, and Pierro, which means "Peterkin = son of Peter", his own name.

Own field

The soil at Pierrot's Field, in the Willyabrup area of ​​Margaret River, is a deep lateritized gravel overlain by layers of pink clay and ancient bedrock, interspersed with crushed granite. The fields are located on gentle slopes, and are kept cool by the cool breeze from the sea that blows along the streams within the grounds, and are surrounded by rocks to prevent gravel from being washed away by rain. The vines are planted in a north-south direction to prevent the strong afternoon sun from directly hitting the clusters, leaving many leaves facing west to cover the clusters. Maintaining a balance in yield and continuously growing high-quality grapes is an important factor in maintaining Pierrot's high quality.

Piero is also known as Margaret River's first densely planted winery. The fields are planted at a density of 4,000-5,500 plants/ha, and the spacing between rows is two-thirds that of a typical field in Australia. Pierrot ordered a special small tractor from Europe to cultivate the field. That's about it.

Pioneer of Semillon & Sauvignon Blanc Blends

Pierrot was the first producer in Margaret River to produce a blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Until then, barrel-aged, traditional Bordeaux-style Semillon, heavy and powerful, was the norm in Australia. At Pierrot, both Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc are prepared in stainless steel tanks, resulting in a fresh and refreshing style that emphasizes the natural aroma and flavor of the fruit.

Australia's best Chardonnay

In 1998, Pierrot's Chardonnay won first place in the consumer selection category at the Karen International Chardonnay Tasting, which was held in Karen and brought together top class Chardonnays from around the world. It came in second place overall and attracted widespread attention. Pierrot's Chardonnay has received high praise from wine critics and journalists and is currently considered one of Australia's best Chardonnays.

Clear flavors of mellow tropical fruit, lychee, white peach, and herbs spread out, with a pleasant acidity on the finish. ``Fire Gully'' is named after the vineyard's origins, when clown Mike Peterkin bought a meadow that had been devastated by a wildfire and planted grapes there.
