Owner-vintner Bob Mueller grew up in a farming family in Napa Valley, where his father owned a vineyard in Rutherford in the 1960s and sold grapes to several Napa Valley wineries. Bob, who had been helping his father work in the fields since he was a child, gradually developed an interest in winemaking and decided to attend UC Davis to learn the basics of cultivation and brewing.

After completing his master's degree, Bob was welcomed as Mondavi's oenologist, as his father had been friends with Robert Mondavi for some time, and was deeply involved in grape purchasing. Bob's big job is to deepen his partnership with contract farmers, develop grapes with different characteristics in each sub-region and field into high-quality grapes, and steadily improve the quality of Mondavi wine. have become.

After several years of growing and brewing experience at Mondavi, Bob bought a farm on Big Ranch Road in Oak Knoll in 1979 with his wife, Karen McKenzie, who also grew up in a Napa Valley farming family. In 1989, he bought land in Carneros, planted grapes, and started a winery.

Own fields of Oak Knoll and Carneros

Mackenzie-Mueller's vineyards are located at Big Ranch Road Vineyard in Oak Knoll, north of the city of Napa, and in Carneros (Las Amigas), where the winery is located. The Big Ranch Road Vineyard has fertile deep loam soils, planted in 1979, and Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc form the core of MacKenzie-Mueller's red wines. On the other hand, the fields of Carneros are well-drained, sandy clay, and are planted mainly with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with a small amount of Merlot and Petit Verdot. The powerful, rich fruit of Oak Knoll is blended with the fragrant, acidic fruit of Carneros to create a wine of precision and elegance.

After first releasing 500 cases of wine in 1990, Mackenzie-Mueller has expanded the vineyard and gradually increased production, but today continues to produce small quantities of less than 3,500 dozen a year, producing high quality craft wine. We use grapes planted in Oak Knoll's fields in 1979 and grapes from our own vineyards in Carneros and Los Amigas. Released after 42 months of long aging. A rich reddish-purple color with oak spice and earthiness lurking behind the mellow fruit and a hint of floral aroma. It expresses the characteristics of ripe Cabernet and aromatic Cabernet Franc, and is strong and supple.
