Pioneer of Nebbiolo and Arneis cultivation in Australia

The story of the Pizzini family begins in 1956, when Alfredo Pizzini moved with his parents, brothers and sisters from Trentino-Alto Adige in northeastern Italy to Myrtleford in Victoria's King Valley. Initially, the family made a living by growing tobacco, but in 1978 they began growing grapes for winemaking. For a time, the first Chardonnays and Rieslings were supplied to the Brown Brothers, but Alfred and his wife Katrina moved on to other varietals in order to make his own wines. From the late 1980s, they began cultivating mainly Italian varieties such as Sangiovese and Nebbiolo, and in 1994 they released Nebbiolo for the first time under the Pizzini label.

Pizzini is known as an early pioneer in planting Nebbiolo and Arneis in Australia, and today he continues to experiment with cultivating new clones of Italian varieties, pursuing the potential of the King Valley. It is also highly rated as a tourist facility for its Italian home cooking classes, hotel management with mountain views, and extensive cellar door, and was selected for the ``Best Tourism Winery Award'' at the Australian Tourism Awards 2015.

Surrounded by mountains, the climate of the King Valley is said to be similar to that of the Piedmont region in northwestern Italy. It is one of Australia's highest wine producing regions, with a variety of terrain ranging from hills to flatlands. There is a large difference in temperature between north and south within the region, and as the altitude increases from north to south, the amount of rainfall increases and the cumulative temperature decreases. Alfred has spent decades meticulously researching their land, dividing the field into 18 plots based on microclimate and topography, and planting and growing Italian varieties such as Verdicchio and Arneis, which are rare in Australia.

Deep brick red in color, with a faint aroma of violets followed by strawberries, cherries and plums, the bright red fruit fills the mouth juicy. To preserve the freshness of the fruit, the wine is aged for 12 months in stainless steel tanks without using barrels. It is built with the concept of casually enjoying a variety of cuisines.
