Château Mourgues du Gré is a winery in Costières de Nîmes that has received high praise both domestically and internationally. The name of the winery comes from the Provençal words ``Mourgues'' (nun) and ``Gres'' (cobblestones). The current owner, François Collard, is a master winemaker who trained at Chateau Lafite Rothschild after studying brewing. With Costières de Nîmes newly recognized as an AOC, he returned to his family domaine in 1990, believing in its future potential and the potential of its terroir. In making wine, we have taken advantage of nature's blessings and obtained Ecosale certification since 2014, and since 2015, we have been using only 100% water during bottling, without using SO2 during winemaking and in order to produce a purer, more poppy fruit flavor. AOC Costières de Nimes

AOC Costières de Nîmes, located in the Gard department of Languedoc-Roussillon, is the southernmost production area in the Rhône Valley. This results in wines with complex flavors that combine characteristics of both the Rhône and Languedoc. Thanks to ideal sunlight and strong northerly winds (mistral), grapes grow in good health, making the region known for producing high-quality, yet affordable wine.

Mourgues du Gres currently owns 65ha of very sunny fields on the Rhône River coast. The south-facing fields on terraces have a variety of soil types. The vines are pruned high to prevent soil erosion and allow a variety of grasses to grow to maintain a good ecosystem, and to allow their leaves to absorb enough solar energy. The marl and clay soil, which is suitable for plant growth, retains moisture, and the flat cobblestones called gare act as a filter, giving the vines just the right amount of moisture.

The winery is located in a building that used to be a convent from the 16th century, and the ancient sundial used in the label design is a symbol of the blessings of the sun carved into the wall of the building. We make wonderful wines that take advantage of this sunny terroir.

The carefully harvested grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks for white and rosé, and concrete tanks for red. Each wine is vinified in a way that maximizes the individuality of the terroir. François says he wants to create wines that combine richness and minerality by bringing out the pure fruit. It is this unique balance that has made this chateau so widely recognized. This chateau's red wine has an overwhelming fruitiness with a mixture of red and black fruits, which is characteristic of good Nimes Rouge. Due to its high quality, it is even listed as a Michelin star restaurant.
