Domaine Bertenay is a family-run winery founded in 1974 in the village of Montagny-les-Buxys, in the southern part of the Côte Chalonnaise region. It is currently run by Francois, the fourth generation. When his father, Jean Pierre, took over the domaine in 1991, they sold grapes to a cooperative, but in 2001 they decided to take on the challenge of refining their own wine. The brewery was renovated in 2002, and since then, the reputation has been increasing year by year. The 20ha field they own has been cultivated as Rutte Raisonné since 2000. We produce wines that express the individuality of the grapes and individual fields. François joined the domaine in 2009. He has twice won the Jeune Tarant Award, which is given to the best young producers in Burgundy, in 2014 and 2016. This is a winery that continues to evolve and attracts attention.

In search of grapes of ideal ripeness...

The fields spread out on the gentle slopes of the Côte Chalonnaise hills have a very diverse soil, mainly clay and limestone. The average age of the vines is high, with some over 100 years old. With roots deep underground, it absorbs plenty of minerals and bears fruit with a rich flavor. When planting vines, we use grafted grapes selected from the domaine's own nursery. In the fields, weeding is not done between the rows in order to preserve the diverse ecosystem of flora and fauna and increase soil strength. The base of the tree is gently plowed with a machine every summer. Thoroughly pruned and high-tailored, the distance between trees is 80cm, and the distance between ridges is 140cm. Each parcel has its own personality, so each parcel is cultivated using a method suitable for it. Diversity is reflected in each Montagny and Burgundy cuvée. In search of the ideal ripeness of the grapes, we spare no effort in working in the fields one by one.

Brewing with a focus on freshness and quality

At the domaine, we are particular about the freshness and quality of our grapes. Brewed in separate sections using the latest technology, including pneumatic presses and stainless steel tanks that allow for precise temperature control. We produce well-balanced wines with beautiful fruit flavors and a refreshing yet deep flavor. The grapes are gently pressed using two pneumatic presses. Cold soak for 24-48 hours. Using natural yeast, some of the wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks. The freshness of the fruit is maintained under strict temperature control. The rest is fermented and aged in oak barrels. Gently perform batonnage regularly during ripening. The barrels are selected from five top barrel makers.

100% barrel fermented from old vines over 50 years old. It has a mellow texture with a perfect balance of fruit and umami.
