Sette Ponti shows his true colors in Sicily, passionate and elegant style

Antonio Moretti, the owner of Tenuta Sette Ponti in Tuscany, owns a winery in Sicily, in addition to his home base of two wineries in Tuscany, as he was impressed by the land and the personality of the residents. Located in the town of Noto in the southeastern part of the island, the winery name Makkari means the place name and Feud means the land owned by the aristocrats. The altitude is 80m, and the soil is limestone, volcanic ash, and sandy at higher elevations. During the daytime in midsummer, the temperature is blisteringly hot at around 40℃, but at night there is a large difference in temperature between 15 and 20℃, and the city is characterized by strong winds throughout the year. Like Sette Ponti in Tuscany, they produce elegant and concentrated wines here.

Mr. Moretti visited Val di Noto in Sicily in the 1990s. Convinced that this area would produce the best grapes, he began acquiring land little by little in 2000. Currently, the farm is spread over approximately 170ha, of which approximately 50ha is planted with grapes. The variety is Nero d'Avola, which expresses the local character well. This variety was introduced by the ancient Greeks and is grown in a traditional method called alberello. Although it prevents the grapes from overripening from strong sunlight and preserves an elegant acidity, it is a very labor-intensive method that requires manual management of each vine. Feudo Maccari produces impressive wines of power and class from Nero d'Avola.

All of Feud Maccari's wines are made from grapes from the Noto region, but DOC Noto is recognized in a wide range of regions, and there are various terroirs, resulting in variations in the quality of the wine. At Feud Maccari, we are proud that our terroir is the best of Nero d'Avola, and we deliberately release it under IGT rather than under the name DOC. Saia, made from 100% Nero d'Avola, is a charismatic wine that has been highly praised every year since its first vintage in 2002, with its bursting fruit flavor and full-bodied smoothness. The 100% Syrah Maharis has an overwhelming presence that goes even further.

The name Saia comes from the Arabic word for irrigation canal. A charismatic wine with bursting fruit flavors and a full-bodied smoothness.
