We also produce Tokaji Assu, the world's three major noble rot wine used at the banquets of His Majesty the Emperor.
Dobogo Winery is a winery founded in 1995 by the Czwack family, famous for Hungary's national liqueur Unicum, near the confluence of the Tisza and Bodrog rivers in the heart of Tokaji wine. It is currently run by Isabel Zwack, the daughter of the owner, Peter Zwack. When His Majesty the Emperor visited Hungary in 2002, it was served with dessert at the banquet, and it was selected as the Best Sweet Wine of the Year in 2004 by Decanter Magazine, and has received high praise.
The field is 5 ha in a plot of volcanic soil on the outskirts of Mad Village. It is classified as a first class field by Prince Racotski of the Kingdom of Transylvania in the 18th century. Limited to very low yields, together with wine maker Attila Domokos, we are making wine with the very rare and high quality 6 Putnhos as our flagship. The winery's name, Dobogo, comes from the sound that horses' hooves make when walking on the cobblestones of Tokaji.
Assu
Meaning "honey-like" or "syrup-like". Wine made by sorting grapes infected with Botrytis cinerea (noble rot fungus). The degree of sweetness increases depending on how many glasses of selected fruit are added to the base wine in a 136-liter barrel called a genzi in a 27.1-liter bucket called a puttonne. The product made from 100% noble rot grapes is called "Essentia" and has a residual sugar level of 450g/L. This is how Tokaiasu, one of the world's three major noble rot wines, is born.
A unique wine with rich complexity and body, with a balance of minerals and acidity that is fresh and fruity, yet also spicy.
