It was founded in 1971 by Arnaldo Caprai, a successful textile business owner who also owns a modern and sophisticated knitwear brand, to fulfill his dream of making wine. Located in the central Italian region of Umbria, famous for wine and olive oil, surrounded by the Apennine Mountains and towns such as Trevi, Assisi, and Montefalco, we grow grapes on 136 ha of the 150 ha we own.

Focusing on an indigenous variety that has not been produced much since World War II, we have repeatedly researched Sagrantino, a unique variety rich in tannins and alcohol that has a history of over 400 years in the land of Montefalco. went. In 1988, his son Marco joined the winery and saw the potential of this traditional variety that had been passed down from the past and set out to revive it with passion and modern innovative techniques. He collaborated with the University of Milan and actively promoted improvements in clone selection, cultivation techniques, and brewing equipment.

Arnaldo Caprai's three keywords are tradition, reform, and region. We reevaluate centuries-old traditions in innovative ways, carry out research and experimentation in our cellars and vineyards, and create wines that draw on the uniqueness of the region. Marco won the Oscar Award for Best Wine Wine from the Italian Sommelier Association, and Sagrantino di Montefalco 25 Anni, created in 1993 to commemorate the winery's 25th anniversary, was produced in 1997. Trebicchieri has won (3 glasses) in Gambero Rosso's wine guide, Vini d'Italia, every year since then.

Sagrantinois a variety rich in alcohol and tannins, and is said to have a wild personality, like a rampaging horse. In the past, it was considered difficult to drink as regular red wine, so it was dried in the shade and drunk as sweet wine. Deep red in color and late ripening, it has no resemblance to other varieties grown in central Italy, and some believe that its origin is limited to Montefalco, while others say it was brought over by Byzantine monks in Greece in the 15th century. There are also theories that point out a connection with the Church of St. Francis of Assisi. The name Sagrantino comes from the word Sacrament, and it is thought that this wine was used during religious ceremonies. Arnaldo Caprai respects this individuality while creating rich Sagrantinos with a more sophisticated style.
