Smarocca/ Cava Nuria Rosé Gran Reserva [2017] 750ml Rosé Foam Sparkling

Luxurious and unique cava produced from the best fields of Penedes inherited from a nobleman.

The Smarocca family began making wine in 1983 in Penedes, a famous winemaking region in northeastern Spain. Currently, the farm owns approximately 500 ha. As a grower, he is always curious and continues to research new cultivation methods, making him a pioneer in this region. We use only grapes from our own vineyards for all of our wines, and perform consistent and thorough management from cultivation to winemaking to bottling. This is an essential point in the pursuit of quality. The winery has expanded its cellar with the latest equipment. He is a talented producer who is attracting attention, while preserving tradition but not being limited by it.

The Smarocca family previously cultivated grapes in the foothills of the Pyrenees, but came to Penedès in the early 1980s. At that time, we started with about 60ha, but in 1999 we purchased 400ha from the Duke of Monistrol, a local aristocrat. The Duke was short of money and secretly sold the best part of his field to Mr. Smarocca. The largest sparkling wine maker was also interested in purchasing the wine and offered a much higher price than Smarocca, but the duke kept his promise to Smarocca. Smarocca's wines are made from grapes from the best vineyards in the area. Because it is a field with a long history, the average age of the trees is high, with many trees remaining over 90 years old. Currently, we are concentrating on indigenous varieties that have been adapted to the natural environment of Penedès, and have converted all fields to organic cultivation.

The secret behind the high popularity of Smarocca's Cava lies in its luxurious structure: ``a high proportion of free-run juice'', ``aging in the bottle longer than specified'', and ``low dosage (sweetening)''. The grape juice used for fermentation is 100% in the top cuvée Nuria, and 50-60% free run in regular Cava. Additionally, although the legal requirement for aging Reserva class wines is a minimum of 15 months, Smarocca's wines are aged in bottle for over 20 months. This Reserva class or higher cover has the "SUMARROCA" logo printed on the etiquette to guarantee its quality. Even the entry type Boujonis has a long aging period of 10 to 12 months. After being corked, it is stored for 6 months to allow the flavor to settle down before being shipped. Therefore, the Danish-like flavor derived from long aging, combined with the pleasant bubbles and fruitiness of the base wine, creates a unique and extremely delicious Cava.
