A winery led by Giorgio Rivetti, a farmer who loves the land and fields.
Moscato d'Asti, released in the late 1980s, received high praise from restaurants and wine critics around the world, and La Spinetta's fame spread. Led by Mr. Giorgio Rivetti, his uncompromising passion for winemaking has produced wonderful wines such as Barbera, Barbaresco, and Barolo.As of 2016, there are 38 Gambero Rosso wineries, the third largest in all of Italy. We have acquired Tre Bicchieri.
La Spinetta's winemaking is a departure from the internationalization of flavors, aromas, and varieties, and aims to get as close to local traditions as possible, aiming for unique flavors and individuality. ``We have a firm belief in and respect for the value of our land and what it produces, and we only cultivate varieties that are indigenous to the land and are rooted in that land.'' We continue to produce wines that express the region in Piedmont and Tuscany.
90% of the winemaking takes place in the vineyard.
La Spinetta believes that 90% of winemaking is in the field. Therefore, the grapes are grown with the utmost care. In addition, the use of chemicals is kept to a minimum and the yield is kept low (1.7-2t/ha). The vineyards existed on this site long before La Spinetta purchased them, and they believe that following nature is the best way to grow them.
The company was founded in 1977, and because there were no vineyards that had been passed down from generation to generation, they were able to select and purchase vineyards that they thought were suitable for making wine. As a result, all of the fields are facing south, southeast, or southwest, and the fields are in good conditions with trees between 35 and 55 years old. By using vines of this age, it is possible to produce complex wines that fully express the characteristics and terroir of the area. From young vines, we produce wines such as Ca di Pian Barbera, Nero di Casanova and Toscana Rosso.
Wine making that focuses only on indigenous varieties
Piedmont has a rich tradition and a variety of indigenous varieties, such as Moscato for white, Barbera, Nebbiolo, and Dolcetto for red. La Spinetta makes wine using only the indigenous varieties of Piedmont and Tuscany, and the varieties that have been cultivated in each region. Choosing traditional varieties allows the wine to capture the characteristics and flavors unique to the area where the grapes were grown. In other words, La Spinetta's winemaking moves away from the internationalization and generalization of flavors and aromas, but rather goes in the opposite direction, getting as close as possible to local traditions and rediscovering the roots. I can say that there is. Therefore, wines are made in Piedmont using Barbera, Nebbiolo, and Moscato, and in Tuscany, Sangiovese and Colorino.
Wine should express the region
Wine should express the land where the grapes are grown, not the maker. Therefore, the wines produced by La Spinetta are named after the vineyards where the grapes are grown, such as ``Gallina'', ``Staldelli'', ``Valeirano'', ``Sezana'', and ``Sassontino'', rather than ``Giorgio Rivetti''. It's being done. Our work at Cantina also follows this philosophy. In addition, by incorporating advanced technology and using new oak barrels, we pay close attention to hygiene, which is one of the important elements in winemaking.
