Innovative wines made with indigenous varieties that completely reimagine Puglia
Puglia is located at the heel of the boot-shaped Italian peninsula, and is one of Italy's largest wine producing regions. Winemaking in Puglia dates back thousands of years to the Greek colonial era, and the region's indigenous varieties, Aglianico and Negroamaro, are of Greek origin. Antinori purchased this land in 1998, full of potential for winemaking. This winery called "Tormaresca" was born. Puglia's wines tended to be associated with quantity rather than quality, but at Tormaresca, Antinori makes full use of the experience and techniques cultivated over its long history to produce attractive wines using indigenous varieties. is being built. Our constant belief is to create elegant, top-quality wines.
A major feature of this winery is that it owns two estates with completely different terroirs: ``Bocca di Lupo'' located inland, and ``Masseria Maime'' along the Adriatic coast. Each variety has its own optimal variety, which, combined with the local climate, produces unique wines. Although it started in 1999 with a limited market in Italy, it has now been well-received all over the world, including being featured in Wine Spectator magazine as a ``winery to watch'', and is steadily expanding its market.
Bocca di Lupo
Bocca di Lupo is an inland estate near Bari, the capital of Puglia. It is located close to the dormant Vulture volcano, and the climate has a large temperature difference between day and night, and the volcanic soil is composed of limestone and sand. The 130ha vineyard is planted with indigenous varieties such as Aglianico and Fiano, as well as international varieties such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. We are particularly particular about Aglianico, and both harvesting and sorting are done by hand. Taking advantage of the warm climate, all grapes are grown organically, and this is clearly stated on the back label. The ridges of grapes, each row of which is about 1km long, are a sight to behold.
Masseria Mime
The Masseria Mime fields are located just 15 meters above sea level, overlooking the Adriatic Sea. Irrigation is currently not used as the clay soil allows the vineyard to retain the moisture needed for grape production. Of the 500 hectares of land we own, 250 hectares are vineyards, 80 hectares are olive groves, and the rest is a nature conservation area that cannot be used as fields. The estate uses the traditional Apulian cultivation method "Alberello". This is a method in which the vines are grown as shrubs without support, and each vine is cultivated independently. Many wineries tend to avoid mechanical harvesting because it not only reduces yields but also makes it impossible to harvest by machine as the rows of vines become uneven and the spacing between the vines becomes narrow, but indigenous wines such as Negroamaro and Primitivo This is the best method for cultivating varieties.
Aromas of fruit such as juicy white peach, melon, citrus and apple are layered with floral notes of white flowers, herbs and spices. When you put it in your mouth, you will be greeted with a rich fruit flavor and just the right amount of nuance from the barrel.In addition to the full-bodied flavor packed with fruit flavors, it has a beautiful acidity and refreshing minerality, giving it an extremely well-balanced finish. The lingering finish reminiscent of tropical fruits is also attractive.
