Burgundy's prestigious Gros family, which started with the first generation Alphonse Gros. The foundation was laid by his son Louis-Gustave Gros. His son Jean Gros, who took over some of the fields from his grandson Louis Gros, made many reforms and greatly contributed to the subsequent development of the domaine, making the Gros family known to the world. After that, the fields were divided by inheritance, and Jean's eldest son, Michel Gros, became Jean's successor. Michel studied oenology at the University of Beaune, and in 1979 started making his first wine from a 2ha field in Haute-Côte-de-Nuit, producing wonderful wines that live up to the traditional name under his own domaine name. I keep building it.

Michel creates wines with a unique harmony of structure, neatness, purity, and elegance. It is a wine with a deep flavor that conveys the sincerity of the maker. This is a domaine that produces wines that are modest but have a depth that allows you to enjoy the essence of Burgundy wine.

two monopoles

The field we currently own is 23ha and the average yield is 40hl/ha. The Gros family's signature monopole, the Vosne-Romanée 1st grade "Clos des Réas," is a parcel that Michel inherited when his predecessor, Jean Gros, retired in 1995. The second monopole, Fontaine Saint-Martin, is a section that Jean and Michel spent 40 years building. Starting with the 2014 vintage, we released both red and white cuvées from the Haute Côtes de Nuits single vineyard.

About brewing

All red wine is brewed using destemmed, cultured yeast and alcoholic fermentation in an open tank for 10 to 12 days. Until the middle of the day, we will perform Remontage twice a day, and after that, we will perform Pigeage twice a day. Transferred to barrels and aged for 18 months. The average usage rate of new barrels is 30-40% village, 50-80% first grade, and 100% special grade. White wine is produced by pressing and fermenting in tanks immediately after harvest. During fermentation, it is transferred to barrels and fermented slowly. The ratio of new barrels is approximately 20%. Batonnage is carried out during ouiage approximately every 10 days and continues until the lees are harvested at the end of malolactic fermentation.

This wine is characterized by its duality, with the power typical of Nuits Premier Cru, and the integrated tannins reminiscent of its Vosne neighbourhood. The way it has matured is excellent.
