Vosne Romanée's talented Jean Tardi

A top Burgundy domaine based in the village of Vosne-Romanée. This domaine was started in 1945 by Victor Tardi as a méteilage (sharecrop rental agreement) with the prestigious Meo Camuzet family. At that time, only four people, including Victor and Henri Jayet, were in charge of the Meo-Camuzet family's fields. In 1966, Jean Tardi, who succeeded him, continued méteillage with Henri Jayet and worked hard to expand the domaine, solidifying its reputation. In 1997, his son Guillaume joined the domaine under the direction of his great father. Since 2003, we have taken over all aspects of the winery and have been working day and night to produce the highest quality wine.

Fusion of tradition and innovation

Guillaume, who studied brewing at Dijon University and trained in Australia, has been in charge of the domaine's brewing since 2001. While following his father Jean's classic winemaking style, he boldly strives to create high-quality wines that are approachable and can be enjoyed from an early stage, such as by using low-temperature maceration. Since 2006, we have changed our destemming machine, and by brewing the grapes in the form of grains instead of crushing them, we value the fullness that spreads in the mouth without overpowering the extraction. In addition, in 2013, we invested 40,000 euros and installed a bottling machine to maintain the freshness of our wine. In 2014, he continues to innovate and invest in equipment, such as purchasing a pneumatic press machine.

We place great emphasis on field work to ensure that we harvest the healthiest grapes possible at optimal ripeness. By pruning the branches short in winter, rigorously removing buds in spring, and removing the bunches in early summer, grapes with concentrated sugar content, aroma, and color can be obtained. We practice Rutt Raisonné by reducing the use of chemical products through thorough field work and natural compost. We currently own 4.6ha and produce approximately 25,000 trees per year.

Wine making with passion

Brewing is done in the traditional way. The grapes are hand-harvested, 100% destemmed and cold soaked. After fermentation with natural yeast for about 2-3 weeks, it is carefully pressed using a pneumatic press. Barrel aging takes place for 16 to 20 months without racking. The percentage of new barrels is 25-35% village, 50-60% first grade, and 70% special grade. Guillaume works hard to improve his techniques, from viticulture to winemaking, and is passionate about developing his own style. Our aim is to create wines with finesse and elegance that express the individuality of each terroir. Tardi's pure, transparent and lively wines, full of fruit flavors, are steadily gaining new fans and are on-listed at many star restaurants such as Ducasse's Plaza Athénée.

The vines are very old at 80 years old, and aged for a long time in 70% new barrels. A great Burgundy with great fruit, depth, and complexity.
